St. Martin's Press: Shelter in Place by Nora Roberts

Book of the Month

Have you heard about our Book of the Month?

Every month, the avid readers in our Books department choose one new title that needs to be shared. It's a book we've read, a book that's made us fall in love, and one that lingered with us long after the last page had been turned. The type of thing you recommend to a friend with a small smile, knowing they're about to discover something unexpected and wonderful.

It's so important to us that more people read this book that as added encouragement, you save 25% on it when you buy it during its featured month!

Book of the Month: April

This month, we're excited to introduce you to Julie Buntin's Marlena.

This compulsively readable debut work is the dark and twisty story of an intense friendship between two teens growing up in a small dead-end town.

Fifteen-year-old Cat moves to rural northern Michigan after her parents' divorce and their following drop in financial status. It's there that she meets her neighbor—the reckless, beautiful, pill-popping Marlena. In the months to come, a powerful friendship is formed. But while sheltered Cat is discovering thrilling firsts, Marlena is falling deeper into a world of drugs and desperation. Within a year, she is found dead—alone in the woods, drowned in six inches of freezing water.

Told through the eyes of Cat almost 20 years later—now married and living in New York, but still scarred by this loss—it reminds us of the relationships that shaped us and the painful urgency of youth.

Marlena is beautifully written, authentically voiced, and utterly devastating. We can't wait for you to read it.
