Refined Reads Book Club – October Pick
This month we're reading Glass Houses by award-winning mystery writer Louise Penny. We meet up to discuss the book on October 26, 6:30pm at our U District store.
Glass Houses is the 13th book in the Chief Inspector Gamache series, but you don't need to have read the ones that came before to enjoy it: each book can stand alone. After you've finished this one though, you may find yourself compelled to read the rest. Give in. Mysteries are particularly irresistible on blustery autumn days and with Penny, you know you're in good hands.
Three Pines is the charming rural town outside Montreal where we'd all love to live, except—of course—for the unusually high murder rate. Resident (and Chief Supt. of the Sûreté du Québec) Armand Gamache finds himself on the witness stand recounting recent events. One cold November day, a strange, silent figure appeared on the village green. The locals were intrigued, however, Gamache could sense something was truly wrong. But without a crime, what could he do? Nothing, until the figure disappeared and a body was found.
