Fun Events & Activities in March

Spring has sprung and longer, brighter days are ahead. Tap into the season's spirit of inspiration and renewal with the creative activities and events happening at our U District store this month.

32nd Annual Kids Bookmark Contest

Last chance to get in your entries for our 32nd Annual Kids Bookmark Contest. Every spring we look forward to seeing the amazing creativity that comes from our youngest readers. This year's theme is "Read & Take Flight." Entry forms and details are available here. The deadline is Saturday, March 31.

Celebrate Frankenstein's 200th Anniversary

2018 is the bicentennial of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein! Celebrate this literary classic with two events on Thursday, March 22. Bring the kids for a Special StoryTime reading of Frankenstein Makes a Sandwich at 11am. Or join us at 7pm for a page-to-screen discussion of the book's many film adaptations with Seattle International Film Festival (SIFF) programmer Dan Doody. The lecture includes movie clips so feel free to bring your favorite theater snacks.

Hilarious Author-Illustrators

We couldn't be more excited to welcome Sarah Andersen, creator of the popular web comic Sarah's Scribbles, and Ben Clanton, author-illustrator of the Narwhal and Jelly series. Andersen will be joining us for a discussion and signing of Herding Cats on Wednesday, March 28. Clanton will be here for the launch party of his new children's book, Peanut Butter and Jelly, on Saturday, March 31.

Cherry Blossoms

It's the prettiest time of the year—cherry blossom season! Visit the store March 15 – April 16 to pick up a free cherry blossom pin or find the perfect book to read in the Quad beneath the flowers. While supplies last.
